April 19 is Dutch-American Friendship Day, which remembers the day in 1782 when John Adams, later to become the second president of the United States, was received by the States General in The Hague and recognized as Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States of America. It was also the day that the house he had purchased at Fluwelen Burgwal 18 in The Hague was to become the first American Embassy in the world.

We're in the African Department of the I.M.F. this afternoon. Sasha has to wrap some things up and I'm doing some work on my websites.

I arrived in Washington D.C. Thursday night. Friday I worked remotely; it's great to be able to telecommute every now and then. At work we're wrapping up a major release, so I'm "bug scrubbing" our tracking system and discussing bug fixes every day.

A delegation of a European customer visited our headquarters in New Jersey this morning and I spent three hours with them (through a conference call). This is a major financial institution, and they were one of the first large customers for my product a few years ago. It's great to see them using the product, and talk with them about their needs. The product is deployed in several of their data centers now and they're using it extensively.

By chance I visited a second huge customer in the afternoon. They are located in the Research Triangle which makes it easy to stop by and discuss things. That was a productive visit as well.

It's great to make software that solves real needs.
