Net.Footworks

By Guus , 11 April 2003

When I started working here a month ago I wasn't the only Net.Footworker starting that day. Manuel and Edo -- two ex-collegues from Net.Footworks -- joined Chess the same day.

Yesterday Tibor e-mailed us: he made up his mind and per July 1st he'll start at Chess.

So slowly but surely the old crew is getting back together... very nice!

Today it's 2 years ago since I started working at Net.Footworks.

Tibor started working there a few months earlier and he recommended it when I told him I was looking for a part-time job. The first time I saw everybody was at an extremely dull XML-course. However, everybody agreed that it was a boring course and the work they described sounded promising. After some talking I started working December 4th, 2000 for two days a week.

My first project was Twyp. It's a payment website and the project was done by Chess and Net.Footworks together. I was a Java programmer in this project. Of course I knew the language already but I learned a lot of new things. After working on Twyp for about a year we (Net.Footworks) moved to our new own building.

There we started reisbureau.nl a large website for travelagencies. Unfortunately, the company Net.Footworks no longer exists. However, I'm quite happy with my new place here at Chess.

See some older articles on Net.Footworks.

We went out for dinner with almost everybody of Net.Footworks yesterday.

It was really nice again.

We were in a small restaurant at the Nieuwmarkt, we had kaas-fondue (cheese-dipping).

About a week ago I wrote on the starting of www.reisbureau.nl, a project I've been working on.

The website has been live for two weeks now. Using SiteStat, the bigger brother of NedStat, the company showed me some really interesting statistics. I was really happy to see that guusbosman.nl was in the top-10 of referers! It means that of all websites that link to reisbureau.nl, this is one of the most succesful ones :)

After a long, long time the website I've spent so much time on is live. It's www.reisbureau.nl.
In the beginning of August I also wrote that it was live (see here) but this time it's for real :)
Currently only a few travel agencies are online but it's fully functional, so from now on you can book a holiday online.

Went out for a drink with Net.Footworks yesterday, the last official good-bye party. The next Footworks party won't be a good-bye party but just a party :) It was very nice, too bad not everybody was there.

David & Milena will be here in an hour!

All right! Looks good -- the website I've been working on for a long time is live! At ****.nl you can see some of my work ;) Next to The Way You Pay this is the 2nd big project I've been working on that is now live. [Edit August 8th: the company decided not to go live yet with their website. Therefore I've removed the link to the website. I'll put it back on-line whenever they're ready for it.]

Working today, the customer I've been working on the last half year is about to go live with our product! I'll post a message as soon as everything's okay.

Have been talking again with some people, some really interesting projects.

Started my stage today, the work at Net.Footworks is definitely over. I will certainly miss it, as I've had a very nice time there. In the two years that I worked there I've learned many, many news things. Learned how it is to work in a real 'big' company, to program together with others, the connection between technology and business. Very important was the fact that I had such nice colleagues. We had a really nice time together, and I'll certainly miss working together.

But at the same time I'm happy to start my internship. That is to say, at this moment I'm looking for an assignment here at Chess-iT, and then I'll make arrangements with my university.

And of course, we shall have our guests! We just came back from my parents, we had a really good time there. Two nice dinners, and sitting outside in the garden. Yesterday during the day we went to see some Dutch things: the polders, the water level, the sluizes and of course the Afsluitdijk. We had a coffee in Friesland. Everybody was happy that they could see each other.

Today I cleaned my desk at Net.Footworks, a bit sad feeling.

We had pizza for dinner, and it's nice that it's not as hot as yesterday in the house.
