Welcome to Dutch in America.com!

We provide English language news for the Dutch-American community. Topics that we cover include Dutch-American cultural events and current affairs. We provide an unique Dutch-American perspective to the news articles we carry.

We always welcome your contributions. If you have tips or scoops please let us know!

The site has an all-volunteer staff of several correspondents in the United States and 1 in the Netherlands; the team is a mixture of first and second-generation Dutch-Americans. The site is produced in Washington, DC. We’re independent and not associated with government or private groups. If you’re interested in participating drop us a line.

Zelf maken, neemt wat tijd maar ook erg lekker. Maak ragout, erg stevige ragout, rollen in breadcrums, ei, breadcrums. In vriezer en jippie!!!!!!!!! bitterballen. Zoals ik al zei is beetje bewerkelijk maar YAMMIE :)

Manlief staat op het punt te solliciteren op een baan in DC. Wat doen we? Wat wil ik? Is het de moeite waard om super leven in Nederland op te geven en met man en 2 zoons van 4 en 7 te verkassen naar de US? Kan ik daar ook volop werken en een leuk leven leiden? Uitgaan, in de kroeg hangen etc? Hoe zijn de faciliteiten voor de kids? Alle input is welkom om mijn beslissing goed te kunnen nemen. Thanks alvast!

Hallo Annelieke,
Wat je ook beslist, ik wens jullie veel geluk. Ik ben van Belgie naar Amerika verhuist en beklaag het me vaak. Het leven is hier lang niet zo gemakkelijk als in Belgie/Nederland. Alles is hier heel duur; gewoon even ziek zijn kan je een fortuin kosten, en dat brengt veel stress. Ook andere voorzieningen zijn niet zoals in Belgie. Mijn man en ik hebben nooit beseft hoe goed we het hadden in Belgie tot het te laat was.

Ik woon inmiddels 15 jaar in de VS; een paar maanden geleden waren wij serious bezig met plannen om naar DC te verhuizen. DC is een geweldige stad- maar het leven is radicaal anders dan in Nederland. Niet perse slechter of beter- maar anders.De meeste wonen in de suburbs waar ik echt helemaal niets aan vind maar een mooie woning in de oude stad is erg duur. Er is een Nederlandse club in DC- misschien kun je die benaderen voor advies?

Ik weet dat de toestand in California erg slecht is. Wat DC betreft, weet ik het niet.

A friend made me aware of this site. From where in Durham do you operate? I live in Durham and work for Durham911 (night shift). Thank you for this site and although I have dual citizenship I am still interested in what is going on in the Dutch community.

Ik heb me laten vertellen dat er ergens in een Amerikaanse stad/dorp een zeskamp gespeeld/gehouden wordt. Weet iemand waar dat is en zijn er meer Hollandse sporten in de VS te vinden? (Zou toch mooi zijn eens naar een fierljep wedstrijd te gaan kijken!)

Zouden jullie de Koninginnedag evenement kunnen toevoegen voor Atlanta.
op Zaterdag 28 April is het daar een enorm feest in Fado Irish Pub (voor een dag weer oranje) waar wij samen met NL Borrels proberen het record van 2011 te verbeteren. Dat jaar hadden we zo’n 400 man.
