It went a lot quicker than I thought it would: the new processor and motherboard are in the server now, and everything works fine.

The website will be quicker from now on. On the bottom of this page (in a very small font) you can read the page-generation time. For the frontpage it changed from 1,5 seconds to about 0,5 second.

From now on the main bottle-neck will be the bandwidth of the ADSL connection and not so much the server. Anyway, I consider it a big improvement. Thank you Edo!

Two weeks ago Edo gave me some new hardware (Thanks again). The extra memory is in the server already, but now I'll try to use the processor he gave me.

That means that Guus Bosman.nl will be offline for a few hours, starting in a few minutes.

After the installation of OpenBSD early this morning I've put some extra memory in the webserver. Edo gave me some extra hardware last Wednesday, and the server is now at 100MB.

The difference wouldn't be so huge as the previous time but it's still an improvement again.

I'm at the VU now. I've just spoken with my study counsellor, and he referred me to somebody to discuss my internship so I'll go and see if I can find him.

As you might have noticed this morning the website was off-line. I've installed a new version of the operating system; OpenBSD. There are no pictures online at this moment. I'll re-install them tonight.

Yesterday evening I've installed an e-mail server on guusbosman.nl. So I should be able to receive e-mail at www1002@guusbosman.nl from now.

There has been a new release of the program I use for this website, PhpNuke. I've just installed it, and things seem to work fine.

Not a lot of changes, but the new version has a few features that are useful for me as administrator. Most important though is the fact that it's more secure (for the experts: it now allows register_globals() to be off).


A nice thing is the fact that there are a few new Themes, have a look at them here.

It might seem like I haven't done anything on the website this weekend.

However, behind the scenes there's been a lot of work. I've finished the transformation of my old Microsoft Access based addressbook to a MySQL/PHP thing. This means that more than 300 addresses are now online (only for registered users of course). This week I'll try to bring back the information in the database up-to-date. Two years is a long time for an addresslist!


Currently I'm trying to see if I can display somewhere who has a birthday today.

I've been working on the addressbook. A little more than a year ago I wrote that I created an addressbook, and now it's back.

It is only available to registered users, you can find it here. At this moment I'm still working on it. I also have to update the information in the database. If you search for 'Guus' you'll get our old address (in Florijn)...

The server now has 48MB instead of 16MB! It's a lot quicker now, the difference is huge...

My father will bring my old collection of computer parts tomorrow morning. There's another Pentium system between it... it would really be nice if I could use the memory chips of that one. Even 4 MB more would already make a difference.
If it would be possible to put even more, we might even get some decent speed for the server! Wow :)
