(Washington, D.C.) – On Saturday, May 8th, 10 am - 4 pm, members of the public are invited to visit the Residence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as the Netherlands participates in the 2010 European Union Open House day. Visitors can view artwork including still-lifes, landscapes, and portraits by such 16th and 17th century Dutch masters as Jan van Goyen and Abraham Storck.

The Residence, located at 2347 S Street, NW, was built by Wilmar Bolling, the brother of Mrs. Woodrow Wilson and was designed by the architect Ward Brown. The Neo-classical Revival style home, located in the heart of Washington’s diplomatic community, was purchased by the Dutch government in 1944.

The Residence underwent an extensive renovation in the 1990’s by a team of Dutch and American architects and engineers. A focal point of the Residence is the marble staircase in the entrance hall that is modeled after the one from Le Petit Trianon in the Palace of Versailles.

Please note: food, drinks and photography are not permitted in the Residence.
