'MIND THE BRAIN'
From photons to art & applications

Our brain is by far the most complex and fascinating organ in our body. It is continuously bombarded with (often ambiguous) information from our senses. Yet, despite this vast amount of data-flow, the brain is, most of the time, able to come up with acceptable interpretations. That is, it comes up with an answer that makes our behavior adaptive and our life easier. In my presentation, I will focus on some of the basic mechanisms in our brain. Some are automatic and require no conscious effort; others are active and creative and need a conscious brain. The role of attention will turn out to be crucial. I will present evidence and many striking examples from a range of fields including art, marketing & advertising, and cognitive ergonomics.
