This weekend the weather was very nice and we went to the park. There were a lot of "big" girls with scooters and Nora was looking at them with interest. She had read about scooters in her books, in particular in Jip & Janneke.

Sunday evening we bought her a helmet and a beginner's scooter and we tried it out for the first time yesterday,

She's still learning that she will have to move her leg before the scooter moves, but she enjoyed practicing.

It was slower than 2 days ago but that's usual for my early morning runs. I went to bed at 10.30 pm and promptly woke up at 6.00 am.

Terrific book. When I was a kid, I read Contact from the same author. I still remember the location of the book in the library in Middenmeer, just around the corner from the main hallway.

Cosmos is a terrific book, very energizing and hopeful.

The Adventure of English is an enjoyable book about the history of the English language. It gives a good summary of the main events that shaped English.

It is written from a British perspective. The anthropomorphism by the author of treating English as a "person" is a little weird but doesn't interfere too much with the text: "But English was too smart to be pinned down, even by the English".

Author loves language but has a survivors bias in claiming that English was uniquely adapteble and therefore strong.

This book was recommended by Eric.

Hard to believe we have snow again, it being March 3rd already, but it is what it is. Yesterday I went for nice pre-snow run, it was warm.

Jim Hash, a friendly face in the neighborhood, passed away last week.

We met him when we lived near his house on Custis Street two years ago, and we always stopped for a chat. He loved seeing Nora and always smiled at her. When he learned we were looking for a house, he tried to help us.

It is sad to hear about his passing.
