Applying for a passport or DigiD now possible at Schiphol Airport

Dutch citizens living abroad can now apply for a new passport, identity card or DigiD at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands. Minister Plasterk of Internal Affairs recently opened a special service desk.

The service desk will be available 7 days a week from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm local time. Note that an appointment is required for applying for new passport or identity card. No appointment is needed for a DigiD.

A DigiD is an electronic identity card that is used for filing Dutch taxes and applying for Dutch social security (AOW). Earlier, applying for a DigiD was not possible for citizens abroad since a Dutch home address was required. With this new service desk, applying for DigiD becomes possible during a trip to the Netherlands.

To apply for the DigiD at Schiphol a Dutch passport and a working cellphone are required. The security verification requires a phone number that can receive SMS text messages. Pretty fast with the stroller

When we ran uphill on the Custis trail, towards the bridge over Lee Highway, Nora and I passed two other male runners. I ran past them with a nice pace -- a good feeling. I'm certainly not a fast runner... but definitely not the slowest either!

Running with the stroller usually adds around 5 minutes or so to my running time. I run slower of course, but I also spend extra time crossing the roads -- I'm just more careful when we are with Nora. Tonight was a fast night though -- 43 minutes with the stroller.

Leisurely Walk on the Boardwalk in Mission Beach

                                                   Our Dutch meetup walk along the beach takes place once a month, on the first Sunday, at 10:00 am. We'll start off at the boardwalk near the location of the rollercoaster and the castle-like structure of Hamel's Surfshop (704 Ventura Place, San Diego, CA 92109).  We'll wait for 10 minutes to give everyone an opportunity to locate the start of the walk.

BOCCE ANYONE?

Lekker eten en drinken en gezelligheid met je lokale mede-Nederlanders en Belgen + aanhang bij het altijd weer oerspannende jaarlijkse NASR (Netherlands American Society of the Rockies) Jue-des-Boules (Bocce) toernooi op zaterdag 14 september!

Er wordt weer gestreden om het bezit voor een jaar van de enige echte "Bending Dutchman" bocce wisselbeker en ook voor diverse andere leuke prijzen.
