When I started the run I thought I could run 5 miles but I felt a bit tired so I stuck with my regular 4 miles. I think I'm fully recovered from my sore foot but I don't want to take any risks yet.

It is getting dark in the evening. I'm wearing a blinking red light on my back, and tonight I held a white blinking light in my hand. I thought it would get annoying but it wasn't too bad and it did help in traffic.

Sasha pointed me to a glowing review in The Economist of a new book by Dutch author Herman Koch. The book hasn't yet been released in the U.S. but I read the Dutch version on my phone.

This book is a real page turner and the story captured me from the first chapter. The book is well written with very credible characters -- yet completely unpredictable.

Last night was the second Presidential Debate between Mr. Obama and Mr. Romney, and we hosted a small party again. Beia, Frank, Jeroen, Juan, Laura, Lucio and Tom joined us in the entertainment room.

The debate was more interesting than the previous one. President Obama did a much better job defending his record. Candy Crowley was excellent as moderator.

Nora joined us for a few minutes and greatly enjoyed the attention from all the guests.

This was the last debate party this election for us -- I am out of town on Monday. We haven't decided yet what we'll do for November 6th, the night with the election results.

Last week I went to the doctor because of my sore left foot. He checked it out and recommended insoles and told me not to run for a week.

The insoles helped a lot, and after a few days the pain disappeared. Today it's 10 days later and I went for my first run.

The pain in my foot didn't come back but I am hyper vigilant now and nervous about every little ache or feeling. The reality is that I won't know until tonight or tomorrow if I overdid it or not.

The run was great. Took it easy with 41 minutes and the weather was excellent.

It was a rainy Sunday today and we decided to visit the National Gallery of Art. This was Nora's first visit to a museum and she enjoyed it.

We watched several paintings together and she seemed to like them, especially the Van Gogh ones.

On the picture we are looking at Salomon Van Ruysdael's Rivierlandschap met veerpont. The painting was part of the Goudstikker collection and acquired by the National Gallery in 2008. Until 2005 it was on display in Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum. A beautiful painting.

On the way home Nora fell asleep in the car.
