Yesterday I ran for the first time in a week. In an effort to keep up, and since I probably won't run Tuesday and Wednesday, I ran my standard course again today. It's pretty rare that I run two days in a row.

Sasha has my watch, so no time, and that is fine. It'll be a week or two before I'm back into shape for running in this weather.

The heat didn't bother me today (even though it's very hot), but the hills still do. Crazy, really need to get back into it.

Yesterday was Fourth of July, and we spent a nice evening at the American Tobacco Campus.

The weather was great, and we listened to several good bands, drinking 'mate', an Urugayan drink, and 'locopops', a local Durham icecream. Around 9.30 pm there was fireworks in the Durham Bulls stadium.

The first band, at 4.00 pm.

The crowd later on the day.

Saying 'hi' to one of the bands.

Sasha and her parents are in Rome, Italy, exploring the city together.

Sasha was invited to present her paper at a conference last week, and she flew to Rome on Tuesday. Friday evening after the conference Milan and Nadia arrived from Bulgaria in Rome and they're having a great time together.

It's the first time in Rome for all of them so there is a lot to see; for example they were all day in the Vatican yesterday. Sasha is flying back to Washington tomorrow.

My first ran after I returned to Durham on Wednesday. All this traveling has not been good for my running rhythm so a few minutes after I started I decided to do my 3.5 mile course instead of the 6 miles I had planned when leaving the house. That was probably a smart decision although I don't feel totally worn out (a good thing). I can tell that hills are harder for me now than they were 6 months ago; the heat doesn't bother me as much. A nice opportunity to get back into shape.
