Today I'm staying home, reading. Not that I have a lot of choice... :)

Reading a book Sasha brought me, "Theory and Practice of Concurrency". It's about CSP etc.

This weekend there is a flower carpet at the Grote Markt in Haarlem. Because my toe is in a huge bandage and still hurts, I didn't see it but there's a webcam on top of the City Hall:

Picture Grote Markt, the webcam is here

I've been working on the hardware all evening, and the results: at this moment I have:

  • A Pentium 100 with 16MB memory, 800 MB harddisk
  • A 486 with 24 MB memory, 200 MB harddisk

They both boot, but that's it :) Now I'll install a second network card in my Windows 2000 computer, to give the new ones internet access.

Obviously after such a long time working with Windows 2000 I don't have any boot disks. This could have been a serious problem but TechW0rm comes to the rescue.

I needed the bootdisk to find the CMOS password. And this W0rm is pretty nice, it contains a small program called 'CMOSPWD.EXE'... BIOS password turned out to be 'VOLVO'.

The Pentium boots! Well, that is to say, it's now asking for a bootable floppy disk. It doesn't recognize the harddisk, so I'll have to look in the BIOS. But, how does that work again: clearing a BIOS' password...

My mother came for dinner, she had a course in Haarlem. It's a course on emergy-situations that she takes for her school, this afternoon she has been a firefighter.

She brought 2 old computers, a 486 and a Pentium. That means a lot of fun for me :) I'll be installing them tonight. Well... let's first see if they work at all.

'Weet u wat ik vind? In Nederland wordt er heel erg negatief gereageerd op de ministers in dit kabinet. In Nederland is er direct een aantal mensen dat zegt: dit klopt niet, dat klopt niet, alles klopt niet! Er klopt helemaal niets van dit kabinet! Als je ziet hoe er is gereageerd op het strategisch akkoord van de kabinetsformatie!' Minister Nawijn (Volkskrant 28 augustus)

'You know what I think? In the Netherlands people are só negative about the ministers in this cabinet. There's a number of people in this country that will immediately complain: 'this is not right, that's not right...' Nothing is right about the cabinet! If you look at the reactions on our Government Coalition Agreement!'

Perhaps it would help if ministers would refrain from making stupid remarks :) This minister Nawijn has been in the news quite often the last two weeks, most of the time because of rather unusual ideas. On 23th Augustus he suggested to sent back all criminals from foreign origin, even the ones with a Dutch passport. As a Dutch newspaper wrote in it's main article, this would mean going back to the Middle Ages, where criminals were sent to leave the country. Interesting enough in the Netherlands we have this thing called Constitution, which (obviously) forbids expelling Dutch citizens...
